Inspiration

Our inspiration for this continuation of the Corporate Absurdity series was drawn from the ubiquitous, yet often ignored, industrial infrastructure of the office—the vents, the air conditioners, the exposed mechanicals. We aimed to elevate these mundane elements into sources of surreal anxiety, combining them with the clean, modernist colour blocks of 1960s design.

What it does

"HVAC Dream" is designed to generate a feeling of constant, low-level atmospheric pressure and unease.

It uses persistent vapour and hazy lighting to create a dreamlike state, questioning the reality of the spaces the protagonist occupies.

It showcases the capacity of AI-Powered Creativity to generate highly detailed, consistent industrial environments that would be complex and expensive to build physically.

How we built it

The film was constructed by our team of Space Cadet AI Powered Creators using the following integrated pipeline:

Visual Generation: We primarily used MINIMAX and Hailuo AI for generating the consistent businessman character and the complex industrial structures. Kling was used for generating the detailed movement of the vapour and smoke in different lighting conditions, a crucial visual element.

Audio Generation: The score was created using MusicFX, prompting for a easy going melodic track. This music provides an emotional counterpoint to the industrial visuals, reinforcing the dreamlike state of the protagonist rather than the harshness of the environment.

Assembly and Polish: All generated clips were imported into DaVinci Resolve for professional NLE. This stage was critical for managing the continuity of the fog/vapour across scene changes and executing the final colour grade, which leans into muted teals and vibrant oranges/pinks.

Challenges we ran into

Vapour Consistency: Ensuring the smoke and vapour generated by the AI looked realistic and continuous as it moved across the frame and the environment was the main technical hurdle. This required extensive fine-tuning in both the prompting phase (Kling) and the editing phase (DaVinci Resolve).

Industrial Detail: Achieving the fine texture of industrial metal and exposed wires/hoses required highly detailed input prompts to move beyond generic machine images.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Atmospheric Control: Successfully building a dominant, palpable atmosphere (haze, tension, alienation) using purely visual and audio AI generation.

Technical Versatility: Demonstrating mastery of the full pipeline for a complex industrial aesthetic, from generative creation (MINIMAX, Hailuo AI, Kling) to professional mastery (DaVinci Resolve).

Narrative Consistency: Continuing the theme of Corporate Absurdity with a distinct and unique visual language focused on infrastructure decay.

What we learned

We gained significant expertise in directing non-rigid atmospheric elements (smoke, vapour) using AI. We learned how to layer prompts to combine sharp architectural detail with soft, ambient effects, expanding the emotional range of our AI Creative Industry projects.

What's next for HVAC Dream

This project further establishes the Corporate Absurdity series. The next instalment will move into a setting of endless, illogical corridors, exploring themes of monotony and cyclical labour.
