Inspiration
The inspiration behind HuskyLinks was to create a centralized platform that would allow University of Washington students to quickly host, find and share activities occurring on and around campus.
What it does
HuskyLinks is a social platform web app that connects University of Washington students through in-person events. The app enables students to host and participate in various activities around campus, helping them to meet new people with similar interests. With a focus on improving the user experience, the platform simplifies event planning by providing organizers with tools to handle event specifics like date, time, and participant data.
How we built it
We built the HuskyLinks application's front-end using React with TypeScript. For the back-end development, we used Firebase as our database. The combination of React with TypeScript and Firebase as our database allowed us to build a scalable, secure, and efficient platform. We used Vite as our development server.
Challenges we ran into
One of the main challenges we faced was developing a user-friendly interface that allowed users to quickly find and navigate to the events they're interested in attending while also offering an efficient event discovery process. Additionally, we had to make sure that our platform delivered real-time updates concerning occurrences, such as changes in date, time, or location.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud of creating a comprehensive, user-friendly, and engaging platform that enhances the UW student experience by assisting them in returning to live engagements.
What we learned
Through the development of HuskyLinks, we learned how to effectively use React with TypeScript and Firebase as our database to create a modern and efficient platform.
What's next for HuskyLinks
We plan to implement AI that suggests relevant details for event descriptions during the event creation process. Additionally, we want to enhance the platform with more social features, such as messaging, chat, and group creation, to promote a sense of community and collaboration on a deeper level. Lastly, we aim to integrate suggestions of events through AI as a future feature.
