Inspiration
HuntyVerse started in 2023 by finding a simple yet engaging core game loop that users enjoy and making that user experience in VR as easy and new-user friendly as possible. With the success of adding multiplayer this year in 2025, and hearing of the hackathon, I decided to go all in on a dream concept I had to give HuntyVerse an open world environment for the first time.
What it does
The Open World level, Wildlandz, brings locomotion to HuntyVerse -- in the original levels there is no movement. The new level also includes vehicles with advanced physics, and roaming wild animals with advanced AI and sensing capabilities. There is currently also a new game mode called 'The Hunt' where players race against each other to find and clear a randomized list of animals to hunt first from the 5 animals on the island.
How we built it
Unreal Engine 4.27. Mainly blueprints, some C++. Photon and vivox for multiplayer. Blender and Photoshop. Adobe Premier Pro. Pond5 audio assets. Fab marketplace for 3D assets.
Challenges we ran into
I quickly had to slim down my dream vision of the Open World and make a shippable version within the very short time frame. With plans to release the Wildlandz to the public early next year, this hackathon challenged me to come up with a true, complete mvp I could reach in the time frame. Other challenges were bugs and being a solo developer. Hitting a bug is an entire roadblock on the project, and with a strict deadline makes little room for error.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Finishing so many core features in such a short duration. Just a few weeks ago most of the Open World was still conceptual in my mind. HuntyVerse Wildlandz is now a dynamic open world with vehicles and roaming animals.
What we learned
Shipping is everything. Also, it is important to prioritize core game functionality over minor details. Ship early and iterate. This hackathon helped me create a true mvp for my vision of HuntyVerse as an open world.
What's next for HuntyVerse
HuntyVerse Wildlandz will come soon in 2026! More game modes, creatures, and worlds to follow.
