Inspiration
This project was inspired by the horror film Friday the 13th and the immersive gameplay of Half-Life 2. We aimed to combine the intense tension of survival horror with the interactivity of a multiplayer experience.
What it does
Hunt or Hide is a fast-paced survival game where one player takes on the role of the Hunter, armed with a gun, while the remaining players must survive for one minute. They can either hide across the map or try to eliminate the Hunter using a melee weapon that spawns randomly.
How we built it
We developed the game using Blender for modeling and design, and Visual Studio Code for scripting and implementation.
Challenges we ran into
One of the main challenges was synchronizing the ringing sound with the particle effects. We also encountered issues with the visual effects — and although the results are acceptable, I'm still not fully satisfied with how they turned out. These limitations stem mainly from the constraints of the Horizon Worlds platform.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud of what we achieved in a relatively short development cycle — just two weeks. We believe the game delivers a fun and intense experience despite the platform's constraints.
What we learned
We learned the importance of keeping things simple and focusing on creative problem-solving. Sometimes the best solutions come from thinking outside the box rather than overcomplicating the design.
What's next for Hunt or Hide
Future plans include:
- Adding AI-controlled bots to help onboard new players and introduce game mechanics.
- Implementing a separate leaderboard for Hunters.
- Introducing various weapon types to diversify gameplay.
- Designing and integrating new maps for extended replayability.
