Hungry Rowdy is an arcade game that takes inspiration from Pac-Man and incorporates some of the mechanics from the game. The Project was meant as a learning experience for the developers involved.
Inspiration - Game was heavily inspired by Pac-Man, this is due to both developers being fairly young and needing a game that challenged them but also allowed them to express themselves. There was other game ideas tossed around like Pong and Binding of Isaac but do to various reason we decided on Pac-Man.
What it does - This plays almost exactly like Pac-Man but incorporates a different map layout and different sprites attached to the player Character.
How we built it - Game was created using Unity, where we Visual Studio Code and C# to create Scripts. Alongside this we used Piskel to create the sprites and map. While creating we also used tutorials in order to get the movement for our character and to get our score counter to work.
Challenges we ran into - Creating the Github was a challenge at first since neither developer had created a Github repository before, but once it was created it become easier. Some blunders were found were we discovered that a box was selected correctly causing us to restart from scratch, and then we discovered that the in game pellets were also set up incorrectly and we had to research on fixing the issue without restarting.
Accomplishments that we're proud of - We are proud that we managed to finish the project and that we could use this as a learning experience. Throughout the project we had to question what we were doing and what our next steps would be.
What we learned - We learned that all factors of an object must be checked before deploying and copying otherwise we might get the result of an improper result. We also learned that we need to manage our time better and get more familiar with the content
What's next for Hungry Rowdy - Game will be put on ice as we work on our much larger semester long project currently entitled "Project Leo" in collaboration with ACM RowdyCreators
