Inspiration
As I stay in hostel I faced a problem of food quality in mess and I also noticed about the food wastage by the other peoples which led me find more about wastage on internet and I found that it was a bigger problem from the bird eye view. to get an idea about creating this project.
What it does
Reduce the food wastage in messes and cafeterias and also helps NGO's to feed poor people.
How we built it
We created this project using technologies like, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Bootstrap, ReactJS as for frontend. And ExpressJS, NodeJS as backend with MongoDB as a database. We used GitHub as a version control system and postman as a service for building and using API's. We also used Twilio by MLH for SMS service to the user on successful submission of form.
Challenges we ran into
As a beginner we faced a problem in ideation stage of the hackathon. And also we were not knowing many things about hackathons. One problem was with the internet , I was working with creating readme.md file for the GitHub repo and at last I lost my whole progress of creating readme which will never be forgotten from my first hackathon. We also got problem while creating the project as code was breaking every now and then. We also got problem which merging the Twilio's API with our project. But somehow we managed to create the connection with the API. And at last our project it working : )
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of what solution we have created and the working of our final project. We have put our maximum efforts with just less than 1hr of sleep for each of our team members. The team coordination was too well that everyone worked according to the distributed work. And we never worked this much focused on working with technologies. This was the first and I guess the best Hackathon experience anyone can get. We came to know more about each other's knowledge in tech stacks.
What we learned
Up till now I have heard so many good things about Hackathons and that led me to participate in Hack This Fall 3.0. Thanks to Siddharth Dayalwal sir this wonderful opportunity as given to the beginners. As this was our first hackathon, we learnt so many things like how to collaborate on a single project with each member having a different skillset. There were so many workshops related to the new learning and we also learned from each of them. We also learnt problem solving in a project as we run into so many problems and we also solved them wisely. The organization was too good because of many mini events in between and mini swags.
What's next for HungFiller
we would love to create Android and IOS versions of our project as it will be easier for users and the managers to use the app effectively. Adding location of the NGO's will make it easier to work. We would love to explore more benefits of Twilio's services because it makes a very complex task to somewhat less complex. We can use Fire's services to add payment methods for Day scholars. Having an AI system can make the project more interesting like we can use ML to predict the material required for the day having details about number of students who will be eating today. -> AI can also be included to effectively generate the numbers of material required to create meals -> Blockchain can also be used to make payments by the users like day scholars and external entities to have more secure way for transactions.
