Inspiration - Many people only notice hunger when it becomes intense, often reacting to it without fully understanding what their body is signaling. However, hunger is part of a deeper internal sense called interoception, which allows us to perceive signals like hunger, thirst, fatigue, and fullness. These signals are usually subtle and difficult to interpret in everyday life. We were inspired to create a tool that makes these internal signals easier to observe and understand. By helping users track hunger patterns, hydration, and food intake over time, Hunger Tracker aims to make the invisible signals of the body more visible, helping people develop greater awareness of their body’s needs.

What it does - Hunger Tracker is a wellness app that helps users track and understand their hunger patterns over time. The app allows users to log their hunger level, food intake, hydration, and other drinks through quick check-ins. Using this information, the app visualizes patterns in hunger and satiety. After several days of tracking, the app provides a summary of insights that help users understand when they typically feel hungry, how hydration and food choices affect them, and how their daily habits may influence hunger signals. The goal is to improve awareness of the body’s internal cues and support healthier eating awareness.

How we built it - We designed and built the interface using Figma Make to prototype the full mobile experience. The app includes several screens such as the home dashboard, check-in page, hunger visualization, and reports. We created interactive components that allow users to log hunger levels, food intake, water consumption, and other drinks. The design focuses on a calm and mindful interface using soft colors, clear layouts, and visual indicators that represent internal body signals.

Challenges we ran into - One of the main challenges was designing an interface that made internal sensations like hunger easier to visualize. Since hunger is subjective and varies between individuals, we had to think carefully about how to represent it through simple interactions and visual feedback. Another challenge was balancing simplicity with meaningful tracking so that users can quickly log their status without the process feeling overwhelming.

Accomplishments that we're proud of - We are proud of creating a clean and intuitive interface that helps visualize a complex internal experience. The hunger check-in system and visual tracking features make it easier for users to reflect on their body signals. We also successfully designed a calm wellness-focused interface that encourages mindful awareness rather than strict diet tracking.

What we learned - Through this project we learned more about interoception, user-centered design, and how digital tools can support better body awareness. We also learned how important it is to keep wellness apps simple and approachable so users can consistently engage with them.

What's next for Hunger Tracker - In the future, we would like to improve the app by adding long-term tracking and more detailed visualizations of hunger patterns. We would also explore personalized insights based on activity levels, sleep patterns, and hydration habits. Another potential feature is providing gentle reminders and reports that help users better understand their body's rhythms over time.
