Inspiration

We are inspired by the difficulties that Virginia Tech students, especially female students, encounter when trying to navigate the healthcare system on campus and the broader community.

What it does

Our mobile app provides students and faculty with details for healthcare access, helps them schedule appointments by connecting them to volunteer translators, and contains a multi-language (in development) medical bot to help users navigate the healthcare system.

How we built it

We used UX boards on Adobe to create the mobile UX and dialog flow through Botsociety to create our medical bot.

Challenges we ran into

  • The medical bot, coding the APIs, and getting a running product

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of our creativity when approaching the problem of access to family planning services. This taboo-ridden sector of healthcare benefits from digital and human support, through Hummingbird. We believe we created a revolutionary healthcare product for all people, especially international students, who struggle navigating the American healthcare system for essential services.

  • Our creative design and innovative idea to help support women at Virginia Tech and hopefully, across other universities as well.
  • We had two first-time hackers!
  • Learning some German

What we learned

  • Creating UX boards
  • Javascript
  • Using NLP APIs

What's next for Hummingbird

  • Continue to develop and expand our application capability!
  • Integrate student and faculty feedback to improve our mobile app
  • Create a more optimal app through backend development
