Our project is for use by the Humboldt County Farm Bureau to unify their scholarship application procedure with a simple scholarship interface that provides easy applicant and application management.
The problem originated with how the current processing method of documents for the Humboldt County Farm Bureau was being performed. Physical mail-in applications and email applications were both being sent to the organization and being processed. This created long processing times and the possibility of forms being lost to human error. It was necessary to create a unified application page that streamlines the process as well as allows for these applications to be easily viewed, managed, and processed.
For our solution, we created a web app that creates an easy-to-traverse hub that contains and stores the scholarship information, as well as the applicant information on the applications. Utilizing MongoDB, and node.js, we have created an easily maintainable and scalable database with longevity and ease-of-use as central concerns. For the administrative user, we have created a system that directly addresses the clients concerns and needs. With only admins or reviewers having access to change any of the application or scholarship information, it provides a confident means of document security. Additionally, the new system implements a database of scholarships and applicants, which allows for much easier viewing and documentation for both applicants and administrators. This reduces past insecurities with using spreadsheets and physical mail for logging scholarships and applicants and allows for the database to be used for several years and scale with the growing organization.
