The context of the HUMANRIGHTSEDU-KIT

The awareness and access to human rights in Europe and in the world during the period of isolation due to the pandemic spread of Covid-19 is our main target. Our idea is to build a Distance Learning tool, extremely simple to use and accessible at no cost, including information, training tools and advice for persons with or without impairments. Our ultimate aim is to gives the possibility for all to keep in touch with the knowledge of our essential rights and to remain active citizens.

What it does

The HUMANRIGHTS Kit is a compact, synthetic, easy-to-use and extremely accessible web kit for all persons, even the ones that may have a limited access to Internet. Training tools and advice are specifically provided for persons with impairments, due to the option for Audio and Podcast tools - including also indication of radio programs.

The HUMANRIGHSTEDU-KIT is a totally free tool, and the four options or sub-kits included in it are also entirely free, without any registration required or any other extra conditions. This is the criterium to include them.

How we built it

Our team of six members is composed of a specialist in Distance Learning, four students (Computer Engineering, Social Sciences, International Relations, and Human Rights), and a Coordinator specialized in Human Rights and Humanitarian Issues. We have worked intensively, in order to gather data, to consult relevant persons, in particular persons with impairments, on their actual needs in terms of information on human rights and human rights training.

The HUMANRIGHTSEDU-KIT is divided into four parts: Contents - with training and even a free course with certification; Ethics - stating the main rules and the recommendations to use Distance Learning tools; Media - including a whole set of web, radio, and other media tools; and Awareness - providing information on what we should be aware about, in terms of our rights, during this period of pandemic spread.

What's next for HUMANRIGHTSEDU-KIT

We have tested the HUMANRIGHTSEDU-KIT over the weekend, and in particular assessed whether it shall respond to the needs of persons with impairments. We have also looked at the management and legal aspects of it, thanks to the help of mentors and partners from France (Université de Guyane). We would like now to transform the Kit into a reality, and also to expand it in more than three languages.

The HUMANRIGHSTEDU-KIT is an appropriate response to the crisis of Covid-19. Thanks to the manageable, free of charge and extremely simple solutions that it promotes, it can reach any person - young and old - in the European Union, and also European Union citizens expats, as well as any person interested in the human rights issues, such as educators, formal or informal. It will also be a valuable instrument for migrants, asylum seekers, and refugees.

Moreover, the HUMANRIGHSTEDU-KIT is not only a response to the crisis. It can be used as a powerful tool for making human rights easier to understand, to access, and to be effectively used. As such, It is a project with a sustainable aim, with a deeply rooted European identity, promoting understanding and cooperation worldwide. It is also a response, from the civil society, to several of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, and more specifically the Sustainable Development Goal 16.
