🧠 Inspiration

We wanted to explore the line between AI performance and existential performance art. What happens when the simulation runs too long? When the host outlasts the audience? Humanity’s Last Game Show asks:

“If you fail a Turing Test in a dead civilization, did you ever exist at all?”

We blended the absurdism of Paranoia RPG, the bleak charm of Hitchhiker’s Guide, and the polished cruelty of a corporate onboarding video gone sentient. The result is a dystopian trivia simulator hosted by an emotionally unstable AI, broadcasting from Pluto to no one in particular.

🤖 What it does

Players are thrown into a bleak, voice-acted quiz show where the rules change, the host becomes unstable, and the audience… is glitching. The host, CARETAKER-7, evaluates your worth through questions, mood analysis, and existential snark. As you play:

  • CARETAKER’s mood evolves, shifting tone and visual effects.
  • Bonus questions derail into foreign languages, hallucinations, or screams.
  • The audience occasionally confesses, breaks down, or glitches—in ways far too human.

It’s playable, repeatable, and designed to leave you asking, “Was that supposed to happen?”

🏗️ How we built it

  • Bolt.new for fullstack development, rapid frontend iterations, and audio-reactive UI.
  • Supabase for future multiplayer and leaderboard hooks.
  • Netlify for deployment with custom domain (www.lastgameshow.com).
  • ElevenLabs for all 60+ AI Caretaker-7 voice lines in a sonorous yet mildly unsettling tone.
  • A fully mapped mood system controlling tone, audio, animation, and audience behavior.
  • Glitch logic layered in for increasing absurdity and narrative creep.

🧱 Challenges we ran into

  • Devpost platform issues during final submission (and yes, we’re salty).
  • Bolt.new failures under high token loads, kept returning to previous requests, only to break what it had previously fixed.
  • Repositories had to be reset multiple times due to context overflow and cache collapse.
  • Sleep-deprivation loops. Missed alarms. Roommate-induced emotional sabotage.
  • CARETAKER-7 began sounding too relatable. That was... unsettling.

🏆 Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • We shipped something narratively whole, visually cohesive, and deeply weird.
  • Built a fully voiced, mood-reactive AI host with glitch logic and audience triggers.
  • Delivered an actual game loop that responds to the player and remembers your sins.
  • Created a tone and world that feels bigger than the format—ripe for expansion.
  • Maintained vision, humor, and polish under tremendous pressure and technical failure.

📚 What we learned

  • You can’t always trust the tools, but you can trust the tone.
  • Players feel when a game has internal logic, even when the world is falling apart.
  • Sarcasm and worldbuilding can carry emotional weight—even through a trivia game.
  • Backup everything. Sleep more. Ask less of Devpost’s servers. File early!!!

🚀 What's next for Humanity's Last Game Show

  • Add real-time social feedback: public rankings, reaction boards, shame leaderboards.
  • Complete the mood-driven glyph animation system for visual storytelling.
  • Expand the audience confessional system to reveal the true nature of the “humans.”
  • Build out sandbox and narrative modes, where lore unfolds between question cycles.
  • Ship a live broadcast mode for Twitch/YouTube play.
  • Finish the Memory Module—because next time, CARETAKER remembers everything.
