Inspiration

Diabetes affects millions of people worldwide, and managing daily food intake can be challenging. We wanted to create a simple and accessible solution that helps diabetic individuals make informed dietary choices by analyzing food items instantly through AI-powered image recognition.

What it does

Human-Centered Food Recognition for Diabetics is a mobile application that allows users to scan food using their camera or upload an image from their gallery. The app identifies the food item and provides nutritional information, including calories, carbohydrates, sugar, protein, fat, and fiber. This helps diabetic users better understand their food choices and manage their health effectively.

How we built it

We developed the application using Flutter and Dart for cross-platform mobile development. Google ML Kit was used for food image recognition,

Challenges we ran into

Accurately recognizing different food items from images. Mapping detected foods to reliable nutritional information. Ensuring a user-friendly experience for diabetic patients. Integrating AI-based recognition with mobile application workflows.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Successfully developed an AI-powered food recognition system. Created a simple and intuitive user interface. Provided nutritional insights that can support diabetic health management. Built a practical healthcare-focused solution within the hackathon timeframe.

What we learned

AI image recognition integration using Google ML Kit. Flutter application development. Designing user-centered healthcare applications.

What's next for Human-Centered Food Recognition for Diabetics

Personalized meal recommendations. Blood sugar tracking and monitoring. Advanced food recognition accuracy. Integration with healthcare professionals and wearable device
