Inspiration

Colour and social inclusion are the name of the game at HueHacks, so what better than socially-decided colours? Social media can go beyond words, giving us the ability to share our feelings in hues.

What it does

HueShift is a social media site, where each post gets coloured based on user votes. Each post, or piece, then becomes a collaborative artwork - the content is decided by the artist, but the framing (colour) depends on how the audience sees it.

Challenges I ran into

Figuring out an "average colour" without everything defaulting to white or black was a hurdle; thinking of colour in a more mathematical way (with polar coordinates!) helped me to get around this.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

The user interface for HueShift is kept simple and smooth - planning and designing this was very fun. Getting everything working in time for the deadline, too!

What I learned

I touched on the power of Google Cloud for this project, which is something I've never tried before. Developing a full Django app in just a weekend was also a first for me!

What's next for HueShift

The legendary RAINBOWPOST will come to HueShift... eventually... Transforming HueShift into more of a functional site (rather than a little hackathon demo) would be a challenge, but I'd love to see how it goes!
