Huella
Inspiration
My inspiration for creating Huella came from seeing several stray animals, some of them with serious illnesses. In most cases, these animals ended up in this situation because they escaped from their homes and didn't know how to find their way back.
So, with Huella, I thought about creating a platform where people could reunite more easily with their beloved pets, while also making it easier for animal welfare organizations to locate animals that need medical attention.
What it does
Huella is a platform for reporting lost animals and animal sightings. Users can see animal help centers, such as veterinary clinics, shelters, and other organizations, on the map.
They can also view and create reports about lost animals or stray animals through sightings.
The main idea of this platform is to be a tool for people when searching for their pets and getting them medical attention, while also helping organizations find animals in poor health that need assistance.
How I built it
Huella is a web platform built with modern technologies such as React.js and Express.js. Its data system is managed with PostgreSQL and hosted on Supabase.
It also has a clean architecture, with the project separated into two different GitHub repositories: backend and frontend.
Challenges I ran into
The first challenge was designing, building, and deploying the application.
However, the biggest challenge now is getting Huella to reach thousands of users who can benefit from all of its features.
Accomplishments I'm proud of
I'm proud of being able to create a scalable platform where thousands of people can participate through new code, animal sighting reports, and the participation of animal welfare organizations.
What I learned
I learned about using AI as a development tool, as well as working with web services such as Supabase and Brevo.
I also learned about all the logistics involved in full-stack development when connecting the backend, frontend, database, and deployment.
What's next for Huella
My main goal for Huella is to reach thousands of users and build a community that can help each other.
I want Huella to help more animals reunite with their families and make it easier for them to receive medical attention when they need it.
After the hackathon ends, I plan to make Huella an open-source project, where anyone can participate by contributing code or sharing new ideas.
