Inspiration: Initially I just wanted a heads up display, but then realized that others would benefit from a technology like this.

What it does: Being able to interact with the outside world while also being separate from it has granted a lot of people enough confidence to do things they've always wanted to do. A paired down version of reality, smaller field of view, lowered resolution, helps those who find the outside world to be a massive level of over-stimulation.

How I built it: It's a duct-tape and cardboard VR headset based on an LG Optimus G with a fish eye-lens clipped on and loaded up with this fine gentleman’s code: https://github.com/Sveder/CardboardPassthrough

Accomplishments that I'm proud of: I can walk around with it on my head and not sustain grievous injury.

What I learned: A lot about android development.

What's next for HUDy - Heads Up Display Hoody: SO MANY FEATURES. 1) increased comfort and usability. With an adjustable 3d printed enclosure (like this one: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:96878) we can make the image MUCH better for the wearer. Sewing the case into a hoody increases comfort further.

2) emotion output: with a forward facing display and the right combination of sensors we could convey the wearers emotions to who their communicating with. This is especially useful to those with disorders that make it challenging to express their emotions. The same suite of sensors and feedback could also help train the user.

3) Facial interpretation assistance: Microsoft’s latest azure software can identify faces, and the emotions on those faces. Asides from annotating faces for those with Prosopagnosia, reproducing google's success (https://www.rt.com/news/319328-autism-children-google-glass/) assisting those with autism, in identifying the emotions of others, we can build on that by customizing the view to match the particular persons interpretations (some experience emotions in terms of numbers, colours, sounds etc).

4) HUD features: mini-map overlay, twitter stream and wifi strength. Because that would be cool.
