Inspiration
We realised that stress and anxiety are common problems among Gen Y and Gen Z so we wanted to build a tool that helps people manage their time better, to reduce stress, but also to help them unwind more in their break time. We wanted to help people destress and take reasonable breaks when studying to boost overall productivity
What it does
It should run a chrome extension that will suggest you take a break from studying for 5 minutes every 25 minutes When this happens there are three different activities you could choose from, which have different levels of engagement and concentration depending on your mood but still keep you concentrated
How we built it
Hardware: An arduino with a joystick and two buttons attached that acts as a controller The code on the arduino outputs the input through the serial port and gives characters that would be inputted on the keyboard
Software: Html, Css, and Javascript run a website that hosts a timer and brings you to a concentration hub that allows you to take a break from work Another piece of software should have read the data from the serial monitor and picked out the key commands that it would have implemented on the website
Challenges we ran into
While building our platform, our main issue was integrating our Pomodoro timer with the entertainment dashboard using JS. We also faced quite a lot of issues when we tried to embed open source games (e.g., 2048) onto the games page
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of finishing a somewhat okay prototype of what our final product would look like We are proud that we have a microcontroller that functions
What we learned
We learned technical skills including Arduino programming and html5/css3/js As we have not many prior technical experiences, this hackathon really taught us how to teach ourselves coding in a short period of time. We are incredibly grateful for this opportunity to further explore this area of STEM.
What's next for HUDU
We plan to do more market research on students and young professionals We plan to find a way to produce the microcontrollers cheaper We plan to improve our web platform
