💡 Inspiration
Most "free privacy tools" on the internet are actually data collection pipelines. When users upload sensitive contracts, private photos, or customer databases to online converters, their private data is exposed to third-party cloud servers. We built PrivacyKit to prove that powerful digital security and file utilities can run 100% locally in the browser with zero server uploads.
🛡️ What It Does
PrivacyKit is a complete suite of browser-based privacy utilities:
- AI Prompt Anonymizer: Automatically masks names, credentials, and PII before pasting into ChatGPT/Claude.
- Image EXIF & GPS Cleaner: Strips location tags and device metadata from photos.
- PDF Metadata Remover: Wipes author names and revision histories for GDPR compliance.
- Client-Side Encryptor: Military-grade AES-256-GCM authenticated file and text encryption.
- URL Tracking Stripper: Cleans over 30 invasive tracking parameters (utm_, fbclid).
- Image Blur & Redactor: Canvas-based interactive blurring for faces and license plates.
- Cryptographic Tools: Hardware entropy password generator and SHA-256 hash checksums.
⚙️ How We Built It
- Frontend Architecture: Astro static output with React islands for zero runtime overhead.
- Client-Side Processing: Native Web Crypto API, WebAssembly, and pure HTML5 Canvas.
- Zero-Knowledge Security: No backend database, no server APIs, and zero file telemetry.
