Inspiration
Medium includes estimated read time for articles so you know whether you want to pick it up depending on how much free time you have left.
What it does
The app uses the Google Custom Search API to get a batch of google search results and then traverses each link, calculating read time according to an algorithm that considers number of words and images.
How we built it
The app is a node/express app that serves a single html file as the homepage. The homepage uses the DOM API and the express API to produces simple search results with time reading estimates.
Challenges we ran into
Google Custom Search API required some specific tinkering in the Google control panel before working consistently.
