HtE - Saving Animal Lives

Inspiration

We decided on what the game should be and the message it conveys. We chose the general topic of animal well being because it is what matters the most to us, all of us are animal lovers and some of us even show that by spoiling our pets! We are really passionate about animals overall and we think that this theme of animals and being globally efficient really spoke to us.

What it does

We created a first-person shooter game using Unity and we decided that our focus is around the wellbeing of animals. Therefore, we used the robots as the CO2 emitting agents and our goal is to defeat them and save the animals that we scattered around the map. We also have small quests like pick up the jet pack (to offer mobility around the map) as well as find the cookie challenge!!

How I built it

We built it through Unity, a part of our team worked on research and the other part worked on the designing of the game. This was a really stressful process because none of us knew how to use Unity at the start and we had to learn as we go. However, we did find it really interesting because of the knowledge that we gained and we messed around with the graphics and assets.

Challenges I ran into

It was difficult for us to use this program to begin with because none of us knew what we were doing with this application. It took some screaming at our computers and some perhaps salty comments towards each other. But in the end, we did support each other through this.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

This entire thing is something that we are really proud of as this is something that we have never done before. It was a new program, a new space for us to learn. And in the end, we prevailed.

What I learned

We learned the basics of Unity and coded our first game. It took us a while to decide on which platform we want to make our game on but we chose Unity and we do not regret a single second of this learning opportunity.

What's next for HtE - Saving Animal Lives

We want to make it into a real game where people can have fun while learning knowledge about what really goes on in the world and what it really means for animals. We want to make it so that people will know the severity of this issue that impacts the well being of animals
