Inspiration

My experience on LinkedIn showed me that while many high school students(including me) want to network and form meaningful connections with their peers, a lot of other students just send random requests to increase their number of connections. This spoils the experience for the first group of students and wastes their time. They are unable to identify reliable peers who will take the time to get to know the person they are connecting with. My experience at Hack the North and other college level competitions that I took part in showed me that venturing into such competitive events alone can be very stressful and intimidating while doing so with another student facing the same issues as you makes the experience much better and also improves your performance. I realized that having meaningful connections with like minded high school students who would be willing to collaborate with you can help navigate this journey more smoothly.

What it does

HSConnect provides an opportunity for enterprising high school students who are looking to do something extraordinary to network and form a bond with other high school students who think like them. The platform is designed in a way such that only those looking for serious networking will be able to benefit from it. It requires students to send a personalized note to someone they intend to connect with. Then both students have to mutually decide on a 10 minute slot(will be adjusted for time zones) in which they can get to know each other. Only after this are they allowed to count the other person as a connection.

How I built it

I haven't yet 😅

Challenges I ran into

Finding a technical team to bring this idea to life

What I learned

-> I need to develop technical skills if I want to find a team. -> Hackathons are competitive. I need to really bring more value than powerpoint and soft skills to the table if I want to be taken seriously -> Coming up with ideas in <36 hrs is fun! I should definitely do more hackathons

What's next for HSConnect

Hopefully a developer or two may look at this and I can turn this idea into reality
