Inspiration
Georgetown University recently won the Green Ribbon School Award for Innovations in Sustainability, which recognizes the university's innovative efforts to reduce its environmental impact and utility costs, improve health and wellness, and advance sustainability education. Aside from the administration's effort, there are a multitude of existing student engagement initiatives dedicated to creating an eco-friendly and economically conscious community. However, the student body could be more engaged with sustainable practices on a daily basis. Taking inspiration from Fizz, a news feed and anonymous discussion application for colleges and universities, we created an application where Georgetown students can track and partake in sustainable practices in the surrounding Georgetown areas.Hoya Green was created to encourage the Georgetown student body to support Georgetown efforts in reducing their energy usage. This initiative aims to inspire, engage, and honor students who make efforts to support the cause. Students are incentivized through monthly prizes, and honorary posts to bring light to their energy conserving activities. As college students, we understand what factors best motivate and encourage the general student body to take part in activities, which we’ve incorporated in Hoya Green.
What it does
How we built it
Hoya Green allows the Georgetown students to better learn about different opportunities to engage on campus sustainably. We used Figma to build a mockup of the app's UI Design. Hoya Green has a feed where students can view and participate in conversations about sustainable activities on campus. The feed also includes access to a map containing sustainability points around the campus, as well as a daily trivia question about how Georgetown goes green. Through the Leadership Boards. students can view where they and their dorm rank out in terms of points. Finally, students have the ability to gain points through inserting images of their activities for review.

What's next for Hoya Green - 53
After the success of Hoya Green, we expect other schools in the nation to incorporate a Hoya Green similar app for their student body to participate in. An app geared to the student body that encourages them to support the conservation of energy will also be a huge statement; A statement we believe could spark a nation-wide initiative to share the journey of energy conservation and inspire others to do the same!
