Inspiration

The inspiration for HowdyHelp came from the growing awareness of mental health issues and the need for accessible support systems. We aimed to create a platform where individuals can anonymously share their experiences and find comfort in a community that understands their struggles.

What it does

HowdyHelp serves as a peer support forum where users can post about their mental health experiences and offer support to one another. The platform promotes a safe space for discussion and provides a variety of mental health resources to help users navigate their challenges.

How we built it

We built the project using a combination of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript for the front end while utilizing MongoDB for the back end to store user posts and comments. The project was developed collaboratively using version control on GitHub, allowing us to effectively manage our code and track changes.

Challenges we ran into

Throughout the development process, we faced several challenges, including: Ensuring user anonymity while maintaining a secure platform, designing an intuitive and professional user interface that encourages participation, and integrating mental health resources into the forum without overwhelming the user experience.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud to have created a functional platform that allows users to engage in meaningful discussions about mental health. Successfully implementing a clean, user-friendly design that resonates with our target audience has been a significant achievement for our team.

What we learned

This project taught us the importance of empathy in software development, particularly when addressing sensitive topics like mental health. We also gained valuable experience in collaborative coding practices and learned more about database management with MongoDB.

What's next for HowdyHelp

In the future, we plan to expand the platform by adding features such as private messaging and user profiles to enhance community interaction, incorporating more mental health resources, including links to professionals and hotlines, and gathering user feedback to continually improve the user experience and address their needs more effectively.
