Inspiration
We were inspired by the hard work that goes into running an Aggie Owned Small Business and we wanted to help them manage and track their finances.
What it does
Our website is meant to take the load of finance management and calculations off of the business owner by taking the information they submit and presenting it in an easy-to-understand manner. We streamlined their financial transactions to calculate and analyze their overall revenue and the profitability of each item they are selling as well as each order they receive.
How we built it
We combined the use of JavaScript, HTML, and CSS to design and plan. Some Python was also used to help with backend development.
Challenges we ran into
Our entire team had to learn web development with HTML and CSS. Thus, it was difficult to get started, but we gained traction as we worked. Additionally, it was difficult to make the user input interact with the javascript in order to generate analysis. Particularly difficult was reading from a file and using that data to get revenue information.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
The website works is functional and also user friendly. We were also able to incorporate many traditional Aggie icons.
What we learned
We learned how to use HTML and CSS for multiple pages, use buttons to transfer links and data, bring the user to a new site, make an interactable chart, and have data processing behind the scenes.
Additionally, we learned the difference between reading files in javascript compared to java and Python; the functionality of JSON strings, and how efficient it is to convert between Python dictionaries and JSON strings.
HTML: We learned how to link multiple HTML files in one, and how to create a login page and change strings based on time using HTML and JavaScript.
CSS: We learned how to format each element separately and add small animations to make the UI look more appealing.
What's next for Howdy Manage
We plan to make our website available for small businesses in the area to use later in order to assist in their success in future endeavors.
