Inspiration

We care about the environment and realize not everyone that wants to help the environment knows how to. So, we developed a project to teach people interested in how to help the environment in small or big ways.

What it does

It's a website with many sections such as recycling, clothing, composting, microplastics, and a call to action. Here's a summary of each section:

  • The recycling section contains a guide that teaches viewers how to safely dispose of materials.
  • The clothing section has a quiz that suggests what sustainable habit the viewer may be interested in
  • The composting section has information about places people can compost materials in Philadelphia.
  • The microplastics section shows an infographic of what materials to avoid to reduce our plastic intake.
  • The call to action has a list of organizations people can connect with to support their sustainable efforts.

How we built it

First, we made a rough wireframe and refined our webpage ideas using Figma. Then, we used Streamlit, a Python library, to initialize and deploy our website and design the interface and appearance.

Challenges we ran into

We ran into several issues trying to add interactive features to the website. We also had to drop some features due to time constraints and Streamlit limitations.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Our team chemistry has been great, and we've been able to ask for help, know when to lead, and support each other's ideas. We are also very happy with our Figma design and the UX/UI concepts we implemented. We are also very happy about how smoothly we could use GitHub to collaborate.

What we learned

Most of our team members used Streamlit for the first time. It was a steep learning curve, but we learned lots of features like buttons, columns, navigation panels, and quizzes.

What's next for How to be a Sprout

We hope people will check out this website and reach out to the organizations we linked. We also hope to implement the features we had to drop due to some challenges, like a drag-and-drop game for the recycling page.
