Inspiration

I wanted to show how music can bring even something artificial to life. The idea of a humanoid DJ slowly learning the meaning of emotion and connection struck me. For me, music is the language that transcends everything—human or machine, it doesn't matter. When the beat feels right, we're all equally connected.

What it does

The video begins with a humanoid robot plugged into a charger to recharge in a dusty closet. Performing the same programmed actions every day, and being completely alone in a closet charging every day, makes him dream of being more than just a "dumb" robot.

He slowly falls into a deep sleep.

Through his headphones, he hears the beats of the EDM song "The Way It Feels." He starts spinning music behind the decks and feels the energy we know well, entering his humanoid body. The beats ripple across the beach like sound waves, touching other people who happen to be walking nearby. First one person, then two, and then more and more people are drawn to the amazing music the Android DJ is playing. For the first time, he no longer feels like a robot and feels the energy and vibes of the people dancing to his music. More and more people arrive until he's performing on a huge stage with a massive crowd. He feels euphoric with every beat; people are going wild for his music. At that moment, he wakes up to the sound of the charger finishing. Surprised, he looks around, only to realize he's back in the dusty closet and, unfortunately, has only dreamed it all. But then he feels his head. There's still some confetti on his head! Was it all a dream or...

The video builds up so you truly feel the emotion as the DJ performs for the massive crowd. The goal of the music video is to infuse the music with even more emotion and connection through the story of the humanoid robot DJ.

How we built it

First, I carefully selected an emotional dance track on Epidemicsound. After listening carefully to the track, I developed the story and created the photos in Openart using the AI models Nano Banana and Black Forest Labs. Based on the photos, the AI videos were created using Kling, Seedance, and Minimax. Afterward, the video was edited in Capcut to create a dance vibe without overshadowing the story.

Challenges we ran into

The challenges were coming up with a good story for an EDM song. Because an EDM song has few vocals, it was difficult to come up with a suitable narrative. Furthermore, it was tricky to get the details right in the video. A lot of attention was paid to every detail, such as the DJ who doesn't wear a headset in the broom closet but does in his dreams. It was also difficult to maintain consistency across the different locations and the lighting of the sun. Furthermore, for an EDM music video, it's crucial to get the music timing right within the scenes. If something is out of sync, it's immediately noticeable. A lot of attention was paid to this as well.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I especially like the intro and outro because they tell the story better, along with the build-up of the music. When the robot walks up the stairs to the big stage and the people cheer and the fireworks go up in the air, it's a goosebump moment, just like in real life.

What we learned

I've learned that creating AI video scenes becomes more difficult when people are involved. As viewers, we quickly notice something in the scene that's off about a person, for example, strange behavior or disfigured AI faces. This makes creating a short AI video very time-consuming if you pay attention to these details, but it does elevate the experience and emotion.

What's next for How It Feels (EDM Music Video)

I think creating a music video that depicts an LSD-like trip where the scenes flow seamlessly together, creating beautiful abstract worlds and colors, will be my next project to see how far AI can go.
