Inspiration
Our team’s inspiration was our shared love for Space. We wanted to capture that wonder in a cozy, cooperative experience that brings people together under the stars.
What it does
How I Wonder turns players into Starkeepers tasked with restoring a darkened universe. In this low-poly open world, you collaborate to collect fallen Star Shards, matching their specific colors to light beams to rebuild constellations. As you complete them, they ascend to illuminate the sky. Players can compete for "Star Ownership" by contributing the most shards and unlock gameplay perks like speed boosts through Constellation Jackets.
How we built it
We leveraged the Desktop Editor, TypeScript, Noesis, Blender, Substance Painter, GenAI(3D Modeling, Terrain Generation, Skybox, TypeScript, & Sound Effects), World Broadcast, and World Persistent Variables by storing top player details per constellation and star for a little friendly competition. This combination allowed us to script complex mechanics and design a social and immersive world.
Challenges we ran into
We faced significant hurdles navigating as a newly formed team and implementing complex mechanics, specifically integrating the Noesis UI system, which was a first for all of us.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are incredibly proud that this project was a pleasant, satisfying, and successful first experience. Coming together to successfully bring our idea to life has been our greatest achievement this time.
What we learned
We mastered several new APIs, including world broadcast, clothing traits, and Noesis. Most importantly, we learned the extent of what we can accomplish when we collaborate effectively as a team.
What's next for How I Wonder
We plan to expand the universe with more constellations featuring increased rarity, new unlockable islands to explore, and enhanced reward systems for our Starkeepers.
