The journey of building this project was quite an interesting story. At the start of the event, only two people had actually arrived to the building, while the other three were late. In fact, it took another 3 hours for everyone to arrive. meaning we were already that much behind everyone else.
As soon as all of us arrived, we were instantly torn in an argument that would decide our entire perspective into this challenge- would we create an entertaining game, or more of an informational app?
Being split right down the middle of our team, we decided to consult some of the volunteers and judges. After talking to about three of them (plus another two hours of more arguing), we decided to combine the two ideas together and make an entertaining game-like project with more of an informational spin towards it.
With inspiration from the ecological footprint website, we got straight to work, designing our different panels, pieces, and how we were going to break it down between us. Bhanu and I (Suraj) would deal with the code, Adi would deal with the graphic design, Gagan would be a mix of both, and Arjun would create some sick music.
At about 5:00 PM, when we all had to depart the building, we had made some decent progress, but nowhere close to what we had imagined. Despite our intricate plan, it was still a bit difficult to constantly stay on task, which wasted a lot of time.
Therefore, Bhanu and I bunked over at Gagan's house, where we furiously coded all night (with Adi and Arjun on a call as well). Being very sleep-deprived and loaded with soda, we had many ups and downs, breakthroughs and arguments, and of course, some distractions too. But after a solid 25 hours of sheer hard work, we were able to create a unique and fascinating project that we were all proud of.
We hope that this project can one day be innovated upon and maybe even shared across App Stores, like iOS and Android. We hope you had as much fun reading our story as we did building this project.
