How does student background affect academic performance

Data Set: https://archive.ics.uci.edu/dataset/320/student+performance The dataset contains records of 395 students over 33 features. The features we focused that influence a students academic performance are - Mothers job role and Drinking habits.

The Ripple Effect: How Healthcare Moms Inspire Academic Excellence In a world where every heartbeat counts, where every patient is someone’s loved one, and where care often extends beyond the walls of a hospital, there’s an unexpected hero shaping the future: mothers in healthcare. Our analysis unveils an inspiring connection—students whose mothers work in healthcare consistently excel academically.

Imagine this: a young student, watching her mother doing her scrubs each morning, embodying resilience, dedication, and empathy. She’s not just learning multiplication tables or chemistry formulas; she’s learning persistence, focus, and the art of caring deeply for others. These values aren’t found in textbooks but rather in the steady hands and compassionate hearts of healthcare professionals.

When a mother works in healthcare, her child witnesses first-hand the importance of discipline, responsibility, and the rewarding feeling of helping others. Through long shifts, challenging days, and countless lives touched, these mothers inspire their children to strive for something bigger than themselves. And this inspiration translates into academic success. The children of these women don’t just study—they persevere, learn to solve problems creatively, and demonstrate the same determination their mothers show each day.

Weekday Sips vs. Weekend Splashes: The Surprising Impact of Student Drinking Habits on Academic Performance In the whirlwind of college life, students often seek ways to balance hard work with relaxation. But our analysis has revealed a surprising insight: students who drink during the week seem to maintain steady grades, while those who reserve their drinking for weekends experience a noticeable dip in academic performance.

It’s a story of timing and moderation—weekday drinkers, who might have a single drink to unwind after a long study session, generally know they have responsibilities the next day. They keep their habits in check, balancing their social lives with academics. This low-key approach means that weekday sips rarely derail their routines or disrupt their sleep schedules, allowing them to wake up ready to learn and perform.

On the other hand, weekend drinking often takes on a different energy. With no classes to rush to in the morning, students might indulge more, staying out late, socializing freely, and letting academic responsibilities take a backseat. However, come Monday, the effects linger—sleep is disrupted, study routines are hard to reestablish, and, as a result, grades can take a hit.

This insight reveals more than just a correlation between drinking and grades; it sheds light on the importance of consistency, moderation, and routine in student life. For our hackathon, we propose a tool that helps students track their habits, promoting healthier choices through insights on how even small shifts in lifestyle—like managing weekend indulgences—can lead to academic improvements. It’s not about curbing fun; it’s about empowering students to make choices that enhance both their social lives and their academic success. Because sometimes, the difference between success and struggle is simply knowing when to say, “Not tonight.

Finally based on this analysis, we say ‘Cheers to Balance’. We suggest the breweries around campus to hold happy hours during weekdays rather than weekends! Here’s how it’d go-

Why Weekdays are the Best Days to Unwind Imagine a new kind of happy hour—a way to relax, recharge, and enjoy great company without sacrificing your weekend plans or your Monday morning motivation. We’re promoting an exciting shift in the college social scene: weekday happy hours at breweries around campus. Not only does this offer a fun midweek break, but it also helps students keep their weekends free for other activities, studies, and rest. Research has shown that weekday sips can be a healthier choice for students balancing social and academic lives. A weekday happy hour encourages a relaxed, responsible approach, letting students enjoy time with friends while staying mindful of their responsibilities. It’s a refreshing way to break up the week, unwind, and recharge without the risk of throwing off study schedules or weekend productivity. By promoting weekday happy hours, breweries around campus can create a cozy, welcoming atmosphere for students looking for a low-key night out. Weekday specials could include discounts, mocktail options, live music, or trivia nights—an ideal mix for students who want to destress without feeling pressured to party hard. Weekday happy hours help create a culture of balance and enjoyment, where students can celebrate the little wins during the week while keeping their weekends open for rest or big plans. Join us in embracing a new happy hour tradition: where weekdays are just as fun, friendships are celebrated, and the balance between social life and academic success becomes easier than ever. Cheers to enjoying the best of both worlds!
