Inspiration
Curious about how ancient architecture looked and amazed by the greatest achievements of modern architecture, we wanted to provide everyone with the opportunity to contemplate the beauty of magnificent structures built throughout human history.
What it does
This application places exhibitions of 3D models of current and old skyscrapers next to real skyscrapers so that users are able to contemplate the real size of any skyscraper, without having to travel to its actual location.
How we built it
Using 'Unity' and 'Geospatial Creator,' 3D models of skyscrapers were positioned at a longitude and latitude near existing skyscrapers in Mexico City. The size of the 3D models had been adjusted to a real scale in advance. A script was developed to allow the display of a selected 3D model while hiding the rest of the models. Exhibitions were designed with an activation area to showcase an exhibition banner. When tapped, the banner would initiate the experience.
Challenges we ran into
Successfully using Geospatial Creator was the biggest challenge we faced. We encountered various issues, such as a black screen and app compilation issues. Given that it is relatively new software, there was limited information available online.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Great teamwork was achieved by complementing different types of skills of the two members of this team – on one hand, software engineering, and on the other hand, UI and visual experience.
What we learned
With the right tools, like Geospatial and Unity, AR experiences are easier to implement than expected, and your creativity is the only limit.
What's next for How big is it?
We aim to place exhibitions all over the world and making dedicated exhibition for each of the seven ancient wonders.
