Inspiration

The inspiration for "how are you brewin'?" arose from the necessity to establish a convenient digital space where individuals, with a particular focus on women, could freely express their emotions and reflect on their daily experiences in a manner that is engaging and enjoyable. This project is rooted in the pursuit of promoting emotional well-being and self-awareness, with a particular emphasis on women's mental health. It recognizes that women face unique challenges and experiences in the realm of mental health, from disparities in mental health issues to societal pressures and expectations. By providing a platform to track and journal emotions, "how are you brewin'?" aims to support women in understanding and managing their emotional well-being while contributing to the broader conversation on the significance of women's mental health.

What it does

The "how are you brewin?'" Chrome extension offers users the ability to select their daily mood from a range of boba-themed emotions. It provides a platform for users to maintain a daily journal, enabling them to express their thoughts and experiences. Additionally, the extension generates a mood calendar to visually represent their emotional journey, making it easier to recognize patterns in their well-being over time.

How we built it

We built "how are you brewin'?" using a combination of web development technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and jQuery) to ensure a smooth and interactive user experience. We collaborated closely to design the user interface, implement the mood selection feature, create the journal functionality, and design the mood calendar.

Challenges we ran into

Storing diary entries and displaying them in a calendar format presented a considerable challenge during development. It was difficult to structure and store diary entries from scratch to later integrate with the calendar interface.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of successfully creating a Chrome extension that encourages users to reflect on their emotions and well-being. The extension's fun and colorful design, coupled with its practicality, has the potential to make a positive impact on users' lives.

What we learned

Throughout the development of "how are you brewin'?", as a team with a background in creating personal websites using HTML/CSS but limited prior experience with JavaScript/jQuery, we gained valuable insights into the importance of creativity, user-centered design, and the technical intricacies of building a Chrome extension. This learning journey included acquiring the knowledge of integrating jQuery to manage user interactions effectively and mastering the technical complexities associated with developing a Chrome extension, including the creation of a manifest.json file and precise formatting.

What's next for "how are you brewin'?"?

In the future, we plan to expand the features of "how are you brewin'?" to offer even more personalized and meaningful insights through data analysis and visualization techniques to help users understand their moods on a deeper level. We also plan on publishing our extension on the Chrome Web Store and using our domain (howareyoubrewin.co) to make a website promoting our extension.
