Hover Menu
Hover Menu is a native macOS command palette that makes repeated actions feel physical: hold Control + Shift, point at a command, and release to run it. It keeps useful commands within reach without turning the desktop into a persistent launcher.
What it does
- Shows a translucent, pointer-aware action overlay while the shortcut chord is held.
- Lets people organize global and app-specific actions, so only relevant commands appear.
- Supports shortcuts, apps and files, URLs, scripts, Apple Shortcuts, HTTP requests, and practical text transformations.
- Provides a native editor and live preview for configuring categories, tile appearance, scope, and display preferences.
How it works
Hover Menu is built natively for macOS with SwiftUI and AppKit. The overlay follows the display containing the pointer, highlights the hovered action, and confirms selection when either key is released. Releasing without a selection dismisses the overlay.
The app is local-first: no account system, telemetry SDK, or network listener. Its optional agent bridge uses standard input/output to prepare shell-command drafts for explicit review; it never silently executes or imports a command.
Built with Codex and GPT-5.6
Codex with GPT-5.6 accelerated the implementation loop across native SwiftUI views, AppKit integration, gesture behavior, editor and palette interactions, local-first safeguards, tests, and project documentation. It was also used to review implementation choices and refine the working product experience.
