Inspiration
We all have experienced the tedious task of, once decided to go to an event, having to book the flight, hotel and all related elements. It is a different process that makes things harder and complicates things.
What it does
It makes simple the process of booking everything related to an event, showing all the info customers need to travel where they want to go.
How I built it
We built some interfaces(wearable, mobile, web widget) to find the event and the origin location. That is the basic data we sent to the backend.
At the backend, we built and app that integrates the APIs of several vendors (Eventbrite for event information, SITA for airport information, Sabre & IATA for flight information, APItude for accomodation, IATA's Timatic for documentation requirements) for to find the closest airports to the origin location and event location, and with that, and the event dates, find the flight information, accomodation, documentation requirements etc.
We then present it to the customers so they decide if they want to go there, and, making use of the Make It Social API, invite their friends.
Challenges I ran into
Integrating the different APIs from several vendors with different approaches is quite a challenge, summarising all the information to present the user with simple choices to make, in mobile and wearable interfaces, was also a challenge, at a different level.
Choosing which APIs to use from the different sponsors was also an issue, as some of them are quite different and we had to choose not to play with some as integrating them would not have made sense.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
We managed to connect to many different APIs and integrate their information, and get the information from the APIs to the interfaces, in the given timeframe. And all the pieces, teamwise and "softwarewise" fell in the appropriate places.
What I learned
We learned about many different APIs in the industry that we were not familiar with, and had the opportunity to try them first hand. We also had a brief look at how working with all that data would look like, even though reality would add a lot more challenges.
What's next for Hovee
If the idea is well received, we really believe it solves a down-to-earth problem that is worth solving, so we'd like to move it forward and and check it real world viability and then... who knows? ;)
