553619 -- that's the number of reported accidents on Texas roads in 2014. Fatal or not, accidents can endanger lives, cause property damage, and often require the time and resources of emergency response personnel. For those of us who are lucky enough to not be directly involved in the accident, we still feel the effects of it. And as Houstonians, we experience this every day. Traffic. So accidents take a toll on our health and productivity of society at large.
Given all of the costs in time, money, property, and life, investing in reducing accidents seems like a logical step to take. That was our goal with our project. Our tool will give policymakers the insights they need to make informed decisions about traffic lights, signage, speed limits, and so on. Our hope is that our work will help make Houston roads safer.
