Inspiration

We were inspired by the Housr webapp and wanted to build a reward system on top of it using Housr wallets.

What it does

The reward system allows the user to get some percent of the money they spend on the Housr app back depending on their tier. This money is in their own individual Housr wallets and can be used to by coupons from a variety of companies.

Every purchase from the wallet counts toward tier progression. Bronze to Silver at £50 spent, Gold at £200, Platinum at £500.

The platform uses geolocation to show nearby sponsors sorted by distance. Each sponsor offers exclusive deals - 10% off bubble tea, free coffee pastries, student gym discounts. This drives foot traffic to local businesses during slow periods while giving students real value.

How we built it

We used Python and Flask for the backend using JSON files to simulate data and do operations on the data stored. For the frontend we used Next.js and React.

Challenges we ran into

This was our first time using React to build a project which was one of our biggest challenges. Also, we ran into a couple of issues with git merges and we had to solve git conflicts. Another big challenge was to get into the customer/user mindset to figure the needs and wants of individuals such as what companies to promote and what offers/coupons from those companies.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Although, this was our first time using react we were able to complete a full stack project that has been integrated and working seamlessly. We also believe that with the variety of companies we promote and the amount of coupons we listed, we got into the minds of potential users well. Finally, we managed to gamify the app/idea to make it entertaining for people who are looking for reasons to come back to the app.

What we learned

In the process of building our project we learned both technical and soft skills. On the technical side, we learned how to make our usage of version control more efficient, how to use flask, react and next.js while ensuring they integrate without problems. On the other hand, we learned how to perform efficient requirement analysis and communication skills.

What's next for Housr Cherry Rewards Platform

In the future, we want to expand our platform to include sponsor interfaces as well on top of the already existing user interface. The sponsor interface would allow companies to send alerts based on location or customer frequency during low-profit days to gather more foot traffic and hopefully promote themselves while helping the users to get cheap deals. Notifications would be sent to our student users based on frequency of how much they use that business location and proximity.

We would also include social features like friend referrals, group challenges, and leaderboards to increase viral growth
