Housing Hound

Inspiration

Finding off-campus housing is a hardship that nearly all college students face, including new freshman such as ourselves.

What it does

This project scrapes and parses Facebook group posts to compare housing parameters to preferred by the user.

How I built it

This project was built using webscraping libraries in Python such as requests and converted into a webapp with Flask.

Challenges I ran into

Parsing Facebook data was a challenge due to the different ways in which users format posts and the differences between those offering housing and seeking housing.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

We are proud of analyzing posting patterns and developing ways to determine buyers/sellers.

What I learned

We learned about the difficulty of working with purely human-made data and its often poorly-formatted cases.

What's next for Housing Hound

A possibly expansion would be using natural language processing to better analyze different housing posts.
