What Inspired Me
I am inspired by my passion for data science & virtual reality
What it does:
Virtual Reality Map containing real estate data points in order to analyze the supply and demand of houses in the area. My application displays the real estate data points as houses on a map and displays if they have been sold or were still on the market and a few stats about the houses (price and days on the market). I created a visual presentation of this information to spatially organize the data and allow for analysis of trends.
Please see the Google Docs Presentation to find out more about my application!
How I built it:
Utilized VR technology to represent the spatial data points provided by CoStar Group. A virtual reality application was built using Unity. Mapbox API was integrated to create a map of the Washington DC area. Data was parsed using Python and exported as a GeoJSON file. This file type can be used in Mapbox to create a customizable map.
Challenges I ran into:
A technical aspect of the project that I found challenging was the API that I used to create the map. I attempted to use the Google Maps API at the beginning, but the Google Maps API no longer supports usage in Unity. This was challenging because I had a time limit for this hackathon and had to change my plans. To overcome this I reevaluated the time that I had left and decided that I had enough time to switch my API. I utilized the Mapbox API since it would still allow me to accomplish the goals of my project.
Accomplishments that I am proud of:
This was my first time making a VR application in Unity :).
What I learned:
I learned how to create my first VR application in Unity and integrate it with the Quest 2.
What's next for HouseScape:
I would like to create Blender models for the houses to make it prettier!
