Inspiration
One of our members does a lot of work dealing with child outreach programs. This project seemed like a fun/cute idea to teach kids how to take care of house plants the easy way!
What it does
Once powered on, it will check the moisture level of the soil every 30 seconds. If it doesn’t have adequate moisture, then a sad message will be displayed as well as a sad beep and red light. If it does have adequate moisture, then it will display a random good message. After using this device for a couple of months, the user should get used to how often their plant needs to be watered!
How we built it
We used an Arduino with a soil moisture meter, LCD, Beeper, and LED lights
Challenges we ran into
Since we don't have real soil to test the project on, we had to use a water cup
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud that it works as intended
What we learned
We learned how to use an Arduino, and a lot of its components
What's next for House Plant Nanny
Maybe it could be put in production and equipped with a smoke and CO2 alarm
