Inspiration
I live in Berlin but my family is in Seoul, Korea and my work is based in London. Juggling different timezones is never easy and it gets more annoying when you have to do the math in your head to figure out if you can call someone after work 3 hours later. This creates a customizable widget on your home screen to give you a quick overview of the different timezones and color filtered areas.
What it does
Shows timezones at a glance
How we built it
Expo + Expo Widgets + Claude
Challenges we ran into
Expo widgets doesnt allow timeline date changes at .atEnd. It uses the previous timeline entries which are all in the past. I had to do a custom expo plugin to override the way the timelines were setup to allow for per hour accuracy. I haven't found a way to make this more generalizable to make an upstream PR.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Updating the swift code for expo widgets to do what we want to do without dropping down to swift ui. (Which was also tried). Quick turnaround from idea to app. Fast upgrades.
What we learned
Claude is very helpful for writing languages that you dont know the syntax of but know how it should be structured. RevenueCat was dead simple for setting up IAP.
What's next for Hourlines
More personalization, start marketing with ASO.
