I've created HottestSpot, an app that presents an array of solid networks near you, allowing you to make plans accordingly without the wi-fi will not let you down.

Inspiration

We all know that feeling of having shaky wi-fi when submitting a last-minute assignment with an 11:59 pm deadline. No? How about trying to listen to your favorite playlist on a long car ride and forgetting to download the music at home? Or maybe you've seen people in horror movies struggling to get a connection when dialing 911 in the basement of their kidnapper? Anyways, you get the point. We all have our own battles to fight, so why add a bad network connection to the many challenges you face in your life?

What it does

HottestSpot is an app that allows you to choose between various networks depending on locations near you. You can also utilize HotttestSpot to coordinate plans with friends near you, as this app takes away the hassle of finding the best place to meet for an important project, presentation, or maybe just a game night.

How I built it

I built this app using Figma, creating wireframes and pathways to replicate what users would see and do on my app.

Challenges I ran into

A challenge I faced myself - and no I'm not promoting my own app - was wi-fi connection. I would move from corner to corner in various buildings trying to find the best connection and ensure as little lag as possible, causing me some important minutes I wish I could get back. I also faced the voice in my mind pushing me to make this app do everything. I wanted to include all the features that were in my mind, but I also knew overloading the app wouldn't help anybody.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

I'm proud of the fact that I made many wireframes and got to make my project come to life using Figma for the first time. I feel accomplished with the fact that I got the main features of my app implemented and even some more!

What I learned

I learned that an app all comes down to how a user interacts with it, and the greater the simplicity, the easier it can be for the user.

What's next for HottestSpot

Now having solid wireframes under my belt, I hope to implement a maps API to allow users to effectively use my app. I will also be adding user authentication and data storage with Firebase to allow users to interact with their friends on my app. I hope to not only make HottestSpot a mobile app, but a website as well to adapt to all users.
