Inspiration

We were inspired to make this app after experiencing some difficulty finding other students to split the cost of ride sharing apps such as Uber and Lyft. Because of this, we wanted to make an app that would allow students to easily find other people they can ride with.

What it does

hotspots allows for students to list ride sharing trips that they would like to split the cost of, as well as finding and contacting other students who have listed their own trips. The map screen also displays "hotspots", which are destinations that are popular for students using the app. hotspots makes it easy to keep track of all the trips that you have listed and allows users to request to join other students' trips.

How we built it

After creating a plan for how the app would function, including designing the different tabs and features of the app, we used Adobe XD to design the app, utilizing attribute-free icons and photos to create a mockup design of the app.

Challenges we ran into

This was the first time using Adobe XD, or any design software, for all of us. The learning curve was steep, as we had to get adjusted to creating a prototype app using new software under a strict time limit, however our lack of familiarity allowed us to problem-solve in unique ways.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're all super proud of learning Adobe XD so quickly and realizing the solution to the problem that we had been talking about for weeks! It was an incredibly fun process to learn how to design apps from the ground up!

What we learned

We learned the importance the UI/UX plays in the function and usability of an app, alongside life-long skills that taught us how to create on a short time-limit.

What's next for hotspots

We're definitely interested in keeping the project going, and maybe turning our simple idea into a reality!
