Inspiration

Have you ever logged into your netflix account, just to find it blocked by another person using it? We wanted to create a service that allows the user to revoke account privileges whenever needed.

Now you'll never need to worry about an ex using your netflix account again!

What it does

Using Hotkey, you can add friends to your account without disclosing your login credentials. Hotkey bypasses the password entering process, giving your friends access to your account as long as you allow them access.

If needed, you can revoke account access with the click of a button.

Hotkey is compatible with many popular paid services, such as Netflix, Spotify, Wolfram Pro, Dropbox, Tidal, and Hulu.

You and your friends don't need to pay for individual subscriptions! Please check terms of the service before proceeding.

How I built it

Hotkey is integrated in two ways. The user could either download:

1) A chrome extension that tracks your friends account privileges, and prevents them from logging into services they are not allowed in.

  • or -

2) An OSX desktop tray icon that automatically logs the user into any service with the click of a button.

We also have an angular.js webapp that the hosting friend uses to manage the access privileges of their friends.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

We have never built a chrome extension before. The first thing we googled this weekend was "how to make chrome plugins."

We built a scalable backend that securely manages account credentials between several services (such as netflix, hulu, etc).

What's next for Hotkey

We want to scale Hotkeys services to include large corporate applications. We hope that multiple employees of a company could share an account easily, securely, and quickly. This could make expensive applications, such as Solidworks, Photoshop, and Final Cut Pro more accessible to bootstraping startups.
