Inspiration

I noticed that many small hotels still manage bookings and guest details manually, which can lead to mistakes and inefficiency. I wanted to create a digital solution that makes room booking and guest management simple and organized.

What it does

The Hotel Reservation System helps hotel staff manage rooms, guests, and bookings efficiently. It allows users to: Add and view guests with their details. Manage rooms including availability and assignments. Book appointments/reservations while ensuring no duplicates. View and update bookings easily.

How I built it

I developed the backend in Java, using JDBC to securely connect with a MySQL database. I created modules for room management, guest management, and booking management, while the frontend provided a simple, interactive interface for users to interact with the system.

Challenges I ran into

I faced issues like database connection errors and avoiding duplicate bookings, which I solved with proper exception handling and validation. Integrating the backend with the frontend required testing and careful planning.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

The system now allows hotel staff to manage rooms, guests, and bookings efficiently, reducing manual errors. It is also scalable, so it can later be upgraded to a full web or mobile application.

What I learned

Through this project, I learned how to design a database-driven application using Java and MySQL, implement data validation and error handling, and connect a backend with a simple frontend using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. I also gained experience in writing modular code ready for future expansion.

What's next for Hotel Reservation System

Web or Mobile Version – Upgrade the system to a web application using Spring Boot (backend) and HTML/CSS/JS or a mobile app for easier access.

User Authentication – Add login roles for admin, receptionist, and guests to manage access and security.

Online Payment Integration – Allow guests to book and pay online securely.

Reporting & Analytics – Generate daily, weekly, or monthly reports for bookings, revenue, and occupancy.

Notification System – Add email or SMS alerts for booking confirmation, cancellations, or reminders.

Room Availability & Search – Implement real-time room availability and advanced search filters for better usability.
