Inspiration
I wanted to build a real-world hotel booking platform to understand how a complete full-stack application works, from user authentication and hotel management to booking and online payments.
What it does
The application allows users to register and log in, browse and search for hotels, view hotel details, make bookings, and complete payments securely. It also provides functionality for managing hotels and bookings.
How we built it
The project was built using a full-stack architecture with React for the frontend and Node.js/Express.js for the backend. MongoDB is used for data storage, while JWT is used for authentication. Cloudinary handles image uploads and Stripe is integrated for online payments.
Challenges we ran into
One of the main challenges was integrating multiple services such as authentication, image uploads, database operations, and Stripe payments while keeping the application flow consistent and secure. Handling booking and payment states correctly was also an important challenge.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We built a complete end-to-end hotel booking workflow with authentication, hotel search, booking management, image uploads, and secure online payments. The application is also deployed and accessible online.
What we learned
This project helped us gain practical experience in full-stack development, REST APIs, database integration, authentication, third-party service integration, and deploying a web application.
What's next for Hotel booking website
We plan to improve the user experience, add better hotel recommendations and filtering, enhance booking management, and introduce more advanced features for both users and hotel administrators.
