Welcome to Hot on the Market, where we turned the stock market into a dating app—
because let’s be real, both involve picking the right one and hoping it doesn’t let you down.
Here’s how it works: you swipe on companies based on their revenue and price highlights. If something catches your eye, tap into their profile to check out the deeper stats. Revenue trends? Profit margins? Risk factors? It’s all there, laid out in a way that actually makes sense. No spreadsheets. No endless reports. Just quick, digestible insights to help you decide if a company is worth your time—or if it’s a straight-up red flag. So, are they hot on the market* or not?
Swipe. Learn. Invest smarter.
Problem Statement
Investing is hard, especially without a financial background
Most retail investors beginning to invest their own money often find themselves drawn to short-term investing because it is gamified and appears easy. Only 1–3% of day traders are consistently profitable, 40% of day traders quit within a month, and 80% of day traders quit within two years. It’s ideal for young adults to start long-term investing in their 20s, but valuing and analyzing data can be incredibly overwhelming.
Learning how to invest is hard too
Existing stock research services, such as Yahoo Finance and FinViz, are dense with crucial yet difficult-to-digest information. Learning how to invest long-term also involves being able to perform fundamental analysis on companies. This often requires individuals to comb through a company’s SEC filings over the years and be able to parse and understand what the financial terms being used represent. So not only do they have to learn about financial and market research, they also need to learn about each company’s functioning and risks, which isn’t always transparent.
Target Market
Young Adults
It’s arguably most important for young adults to get into investing, as their money will go a much longer way, whether in retirement or as passive income. But it’s very difficult to prioritize our futures when not incentivized by fun, with the average screentime of young adults being 7-8 hours. Our program aims to connect these principles and create something educational yet exciting!
Beginner Retail Investors
The retail investing space is expanding rapidly with 25% of total equities trading volume in the US being held by retail investors, as people with disposable income attempt to make money on stocks. Accessibility to the exchanges and markets is also greatly increased, but financial knowledge and literacy don’t grow simultaneously, and these investors frequently lose money.
Proposed Solution
- Simplifies Fundamental Analysis – Transforms complex SEC filings into easy-to-understand graphs, making financial data more digestible.
- Gamified Learning Experience – Users “swipe” on companies, making stock research engaging instead of overwhelming.
- Bridges the Education Gap – Teaches essential investing skills by integrating 10-Q filing analysis in a user-friendly format.
- Encourages Long-Term Thinking – Unlike day-trading apps, it promotes informed decision-making based on real financial health and subjective value
- Visual-First Approach – Interactive income, balance sheet, and cash flow graphs provide clarity without information overload.
- Chatbot- Easy conversational way to learn more about a company's backgrounds and what the numbers represent
Next Steps and Features
- Deeper integration with brokerages (Streamline making investments through our site, exporting "matches" into a watchlist, ability to view the profiles of stocks in user portfolios on our site)
- Live price tracking and updates
- Integration with other investment research platforms (Yahoo Finance, FinViz, etc.) for when users are ready for more in depth information
- Add in functionality for more stocks, ETFs, and potentially grouping function for funds
