Inspiration
We were inspired by the real problems students face in hostel living, such as poor communication with hostel owners, manual record keeping, and lack of transparency in fees and room management. We wanted to solve these issues by building a centralized digital platform that makes hostel management easier and more efficient for both students and owners.
What it does
Hostel Hub is a full stack hostel management system that connects students and hostel owners on one platform. It allows students to search hostels, view details, and apply for rooms, while owners can manage listings, students, payments, and complaints efficiently. It brings transparency, automation, and better communication into hostel life.
How we built it
We built Hostel Hub using a full stack approach. The frontend is designed using HTML, CSS,Bootstrap, and JavaScript for a responsive and user-friendly interface. The backend is developed using PHP with MySQL for database management. We structured the system to handle user authentication, hostel listings, bookings, and admin control in an organized way.
Challenges we ran into
One of the main challenges was designing a smooth workflow between students and hostel owners while maintaining data consistency. Managing authentication and role-based access (student vs owner vs admin) was also complex. We also faced difficulties in integrating frontend and backend properly without breaking functionality.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We successfully built a working full stack system with proper user roles and real-world functionality. We are proud of creating a platform that solves a real-life problem and improves hostel management efficiency. The system is fully functional and user-friendly.
What we learned
We learned how to design and build a complete full stack web application, manage databases effectively, and handle user authentication and role-based systems. We also improved our problem-solving skills and teamwork during development.
What's next for Hostel Hub
In the future, we plan to add online payment integration, real-time chat between students and owners, mobile app support, and AI-based hostel recommendations to make the system even smarter and more powerful.
