Inspiration

Finding a good hostel is a big problem for students, especially when moving to a new city for university. Many students waste time visiting hostels physically, relying on random Facebook groups, or asking seniors for recommendations. There is no simple, organized platform that shows verified hostels, prices, distance, and facilities in one place. This inspired me to build Hostel Finder, a platform that helps students easily discover hostels near their campus with useful filters and clear information.

What it does

Hostel Finder helps students easily find hostels near their university. It shows hostel listings with important details such as price, location, and available facilities, all in one place.

How we built it

We built Hostel Finder by first identifying the core problem students face when searching for hostels. The app was designed with a simple and intuitive interface, focusing on hostel listings, search, and filters. We structured the project in a modular way so features could be added easily in the future, and we tested the app continuously to ensure a smooth user experience.

Challenges we ran into

One of the main challenges was organizing hostel data in a way that allowed fast searching and filtering. Designing a UI that was both simple and informative also took multiple iterations. Managing time and deciding which features were essential for the first version was another challenge we had to carefully balance.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of building a functional prototype that solves a real problem faced by students. Creating a clean and user-friendly interface and successfully implementing search and filter features within a limited time was a major achievement. Most importantly, we turned an idea into a working product.

What we learned

This project helped us understand how to think from a user’s perspective and build solutions for real-world problems. We learned how to structure an application properly, manage features efficiently, and improve our problem-solving and decision-making skills during development.
