About hosted.md

I created hosted.md to solve a personal frustration: the complexity of building and deploying simple websites. As a developer, I've spent countless hours wrestling with server configurations, deployment pipelines, and complicated CMS platforms just to get a basic blog or portfolio online. My inspiration was to build something that was the exact opposite of that experience—a platform where the only thing you need to worry about is your content.

How It's Built

hosted.md is built with a focus on simplicity and performance. The core of the platform takes plain Markdown files and instantly generates a static website. It uses a custom-built, fast, and secure CDN to serve sites globally, ensuring low latency and high availability. The user interface, including the live-preview editor, is designed to be intuitive so that anyone, regardless of technical skill, can publish a professional-looking site.

What I Learned & Challenges

The biggest challenge was creating a system that felt simple to the user while handling a lot of complexity behind the scenes. Building a robust system for converting Markdown to HTML, managing themes, and seamlessly integrating with Git hooks required a lot of careful planning. Ensuring the platform's security and scalability during the beta phase has also been a significant learning curve, but it's a challenge I've embraced to create a reliable product. I learned a lot about balancing user experience with technical implementation, and I'm incredibly proud of what we've built.
