Inspiration
The inspiration behind Host Your Hustle comes from a prevalence of many Black individuals who are forced to work multiple jobs or have side hustles in order to make ends meet. Both shining a positive light on the word hustle and promoting those who must work for secondary-income streams, Host Your Hustle aims to help Black entrepreneurs of all crafts develop their businesses. The platform will allow Black hustlers to advertise their hustles while receiving a network of individuals who can provide them valuable mentorship or insights into growing a business -- transforming a side hustle into a full-fledged main source of income business.
What it does
Host Your Hustle is a web application that allows for Black entrepreneurs in Boston -- ranging from side hustles to family-owned businesses -- to promote themselves and for Boston-based customers to find the services they need in their community. Entrepreneurs and hustlers will be able to register their accounts in the application, making them viewable to anyone interested in their different crafts/services. Customers can filter in regards to neighborhood and craft so that they can find the individual in their local community who is perfect for the job they need to do. Additionally, there is a forum and informational page for entrepreneurs to connect with each other, learn how to develop their business and ask other professionals for business advice.
How we built it
We built this web application in python. We used the Streamlit framework for designing frontend.
Challenges we ran into
One challenge we ran into were creating a server which can connect multiple pages and also store the data so that it can update from anywhere in the program. This second part is something which we have learned we will need to dedicate more time to.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of the entire project as a whole and that the application runs and looks similarly to how we envisioned it.
What we learned
We learned plenty about creating a frontend for a page and refreshing data in a page according to user input.
What's next for Host Your Hustle
The next step will be creating authentication so that entrepreneurs can secure their accounts and go back in to edit their data. We additionally want to incorporate a scheduling API and payment method so that customers can book services and buy crafts directly from the website.
