Inspiration

As a former career coach, I grew frustrated with piecing together disjointed tools—streaming software, ticketing systems, resource sharing—to host paid workshops. I saw peers in coaching, creative, and professional fields facing the same pain: no single platform to create, deliver, and monetize interactive workshops end-to-end. That gap sparked the idea for OnlineWorkshop Platform—built to let experts focus on teaching, not tech.

What it does

OnlineWorkshop Platform is a SaaS solution for coaches, creators, and professionals to host paid online workshops. It combines live streaming with interactive tools (polls, whiteboards, breakout rooms), automated ticketing/capacity management, post-workshop resource delivery, attendee engagement tools, and transparent revenue tracking—all in one dashboard. Attendees discover workshops via curated listings, register seamlessly, and access session recordings/resources securely.

How we built it

We started with core user interviews (15+ coaches/creators) to map critical workflows, then built a React/Node.js frontend/backend stack for scalability. We integrated Stripe for payment processing (5% transaction fee logic) and WebRTC for live streaming, then added AWS S3 for secure resource storage. The dashboard was designed for intuitive navigation, with real-time data sync via PostgreSQL to track attendees, revenue, and engagement metrics. We prioritized mobile responsiveness and automated workflows (e.g., post-workshop thank-you messages via Twilio) to reduce host friction.

Challenges we ran into

The biggest hurdle was syncing real-time interactive tools (polls, breakout rooms) with live streaming without latency—we iterated on WebRTC configurations and optimized server-side processing to ensure smooth performance for 50+ attendees. We also faced payment logic complexity: calculating $49 monthly subscriptions + 5% transaction fees while ensuring real-time revenue updates. Additionally, balancing host control (custom workshop settings) with attendee simplicity (easy registration) required multiple UI iterations to avoid clutter.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We built a fully integrated platform where hosts can create a workshop, launch a public landing page, run a live interactive session, and track revenue—all in under 10 minutes. We also achieved 99.8% uptime for live sessions in beta testing, and beta users reported a 40% reduction in time spent on workshop admin tasks. The automated resource delivery and attendee engagement tools have boosted post-workshop retention (80% of attendees accessed recordings/resources post-session).

What we learned

User-centric design isn’t just about features—it’s about removing friction. We learned to prioritize core workflows (e.g., ticket setup, live session control) over "nice-to-have" tools, and that transparent pricing (subscription + transaction fees) builds trust with hosts. Technically, we mastered balancing real-time features with scalability, and the importance of rigorous testing for payment processing to avoid calculation errors.

What's next for This project

We plan to add advanced analytics (attendee engagement trends, conversion rate tracking) and integrate with popular email marketing tools for lead nurturing. We’ll also expand payment options to support regional European/US payment methods, and introduce tiered subscription plans (basic/pro) to cater to hosts with different workshop volumes. Finally, we’ll add a peer review feature for hosts to share best practices, fostering a community around the platform.
