Host Games Night

Inspiration

The concept for Host Games Night originated from a simple need: I wanted to host an engaging, low-stakes game show for a staff gathering. What I quickly discovered was a significant gap in online resources. Existing templates were often overly complex, demanding intricate technical setups, or surprisingly expensive with limited features. This direct experience fuelled my drive to create a platform that was genuinely simple, accessible, and designed for effortless, interactive fun.

What it does

Host Games Night is a web platform built to transform social gatherings into memorable game show experiences. We provide a growing library of customizable game templates, all inspired by popular TV game shows. Users can easily select a game template, personalize it and instantly launch a fully interactive game ready to play. For this hackathon submission, we're proud to feature our Family Trivia game, a dynamic experience inspired by "Family Feud," available for immediate play.

How we built it

My development process for Host Games Night followed a structured, iterative approach. I began by brainstorming the core game mechanics and user interactions for the Family Trivia template, focusing on intuitive flows. This led to drafting a comprehensive Product Requirements Document (PRD), detailing user flows and game logic. I then moved on to creating wireframes in Figma to visualize the user interface and ensure a smooth experience. With a clear vision in mind, I leveraged the capabilities of bolt.new to bring the application to life.

Challenges we ran into

My biggest challenge was getting bolt.new to generate my exact vision. Early on, general prompts led to frustrating, off-target results. The breakthrough came when I switched to a highly specific, step-by-step prompting strategy – almost 'hand-holding' the AI through each feature. This iterative, precise approach was crucial for building out the exact game mechanics and UI I needed for the MVP.

We'll also be hard at work creating even more exciting game templates, inspired by your favourite TV shows, to expand our library and bring endless new ways to play.
